For (above ground) street photography I usually ask (or signal) to people that I’d like to take their picture and then, of course, I have to abide by their answer. In the subway, during rush hour, it’s a little hard to ask so I mostly don’t. Some people glare suspiciously at the camera but, while the camera is in plain sight, most people are unaware that I am surreptitiously snapping their picture.
