Thanks. I had not seen this. I have the 7 volumes of Sander’s People of the 20th Century and I have read Powers’ novel (he’s a favorite writer of mine) but I didn’t even know they weren’t farmers. I can’t say I agree very much with the narrator’s approach to reading history and photographs however. I feel like he places far too much weight on his personal, subjective interpretation and anachronistically imputing foresight to Sander for which there is no evidence.
