Guildford

One weekend we took the bus to Guildford a larger town nearby with a vibrant, pedestrian shopping district, an ancient castle ruin, and more. Click any image to see them all enlarged.

Farnham Freshers’ Fair

A freshman fair at the University for the Creative Arts, Farnham. Many departments set up booths where you could try your hand at different artistic or artisanal pursuits, a few snapshots of which, above. Farnham Park

Outside the castle you can see Farnham Park stretching into the distance. It’s approximately half the size of Central Park in NYC, delightedly less crowded and with much more varied natural landscapes instead of Central Park’s many entertainments. Farnham

We rented an apartment (a flat) before coming to the UK off the evidence of a video walk-through. It’s brand new construction in a complex that’s only half done, of a development we’ve come to learn has been controversial, with local opposition for years.

In Farnham

The ethics, if not the law, of photographing people without their knowledge in the streets strike me as being a little more suspect here than in NYC so expect to see much less of this type of work. New York’s a metropolis of 8 million, Farnham a town of under 40,000; I was born and raised in NY but I’m a newcomer to Farnham; NY offers the anonymity of scale, Farnham the pleasures of community.
