Blog Note

The hard drive with 40,000+ image files crashed yesterday. Both of my backup schemes failed me. Fortunately, for the mere expenditure of a few hundred hard-earned simoleans (that’s dollars, to those of you abroad), the good folks at TekServe expect to be able to recover most everything and put it on a new hard drive.

However, that won’t be till mid-week when I will be sojourning in Scandinavia. Beyond a few snaps taken yesterday and today, therefore, obBLOGato may fall silent in a few days but we hope to come roaring back late next week with Stockholm and more on our new hard drive.

  1. I know how you feel. A few years ago my PowerBook’s hard drive crashed as I was backing up to an external hard drive. Unfortunately, I didn’t have your luck with TekServe. The guys said my hard drive had the “click of death” & weren’t able to retrieve anything.

I’m sure you’ll have a better outcome though, my machine was old. Have a safe trip, I look forward to seeing your new pictures!

    1. Yes – the click of death is the sound of the head crashing into the platters. Mine did nothing – ergo, the controller card was simply not addressing the disk but the disk itself was OK – or at any rate, that’s the diagnosis so far. We’ll see what they actually recover. I will be posting a few shots from yesterday and today over the next couple of days and then go backwards when I get the drive back with last week’s images intact, I hope.

  2. Oh NO! Fingers crossed TekServ gets everything. You will be missed in your visual silence. Safe Journey. Looking forward to your return. Seedbud.
