We visited Lyndhurst. Initially a house built by a former mayor of NYC, it was later expanded and subsequently bought by Jay Gould, one of the most hated “robber barons” in US history. Today you can visit it with mostly original furnishings from the 3 families who owned it.

That beautiful green bathroom. At first glance I thought wow, that’s amazing for a hotel until I read the info. Silly me. I envy you if you have a bathroom even half as stylish as that one!
Beautiful but not that functional. For instance, separate hot and cold water taps on the sink so you can never get warm water, you just have to move your hands back and forth between scalding and freezing and pretend on average it’s just right… Modern plumbing is less luxurious but works, oh, so much better.
That has made me laugh out loud as I do actually have modern plumbing, but it’s still hot out of one tap and cold out the other – I’ve got used to it. I guess it’s a Brit thing!
Ha! I didn’t see your comment when I looked at the bathroom picture and immediately thought, “Boy, I wish my bathroom looked like this.” I like your comment better.
Actually, while not quite as large as this, my pre-war apartment bathroom does look something like this! [image: bathroom.jpg]
Darn! Mine truly does not. Lucky you.
