Just received copies of the brochure issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Carl Shurz Haus of the German American Institute in Freiburg, Germany. My photograph of his statue at Morningside Drive and 116th Street, “Carl Shurz, Defender of Liberty and Friend of Human Rights, Overlooks Harlem,” features in it and I’m quite pleased with how well the printed version came out. To get this angle I had to clamber up onto the wall over the drop into the park but it was worth it to get the Harlem prospect in the background.
