  1. this one is bothersome because I just noticed his arm through hers. It is like she is resigned to the fact that the jig is up; he just arrested her so he is definitely smug.
    OK–what’s the real story?

    1. I don’t know the real story, of course. These are just passersby. They appear to be a happy enough couple walking and talking down the street, arm in arm. I have 1 or 2 other shots of them moments before, heads turned towards each other deep in conversation. The interesting thing to me is how the camera freezes transitory expressions (or micro-expressions) as they pass across their faces, like clouds passing across the sky that look for a moment like a whale and then don’t.

In this case he clearly has some kind of smile on his face and I can’t tell if it’s triumphal (he just won the argument or subdued her point) or merely contented because he’s walking with the woman he loves. She definitely has more of a frown on her face. Did she just lose the argument? Or submit to his stronger-willed male argument even though she was right? Or she’s not thrilled to be walking down the street with this guy’s hand on her arm? Or is it merely an odd moment that the camera trapped as her face passes from a smile to neutral?

      1. This is what I so enjoy–the moment when the camera freezes–and you are left with a puzzle. I love the back story that you have from the photos before this one. Thanks, Adam. Your photos always capture my interest.
