Every year the Municipal Art society runs a series of “Jane’s Walks” throughout New York, honoring Jane Jacobs, the anti-urban planner. We chose to tour Lost and Found Murals of East Harlem and met here, at the site of a James De La Vega mural honoring Celia Cruz, not far from where I grew up and went to school, where many of my classmates lived in public housing in the streets we traversed.

Thanks for bringing Jane jacobs to my attention. Not so well-known in Europe, I guess, but looking around me in Antwerp and thinking of what else is being planned we could use someone like her here even in 2015! 🙂
My pleasure. It’s remarkable to me how like Cassandra she’s become. Her thesis is demonstrably true yet we go on ignoring her to our peril.
I agree…
