In a case like this, instead of just adding an image to the post, I inserted a gallery (a WordPress option you should see on the same screen where you’re choosing a photo to insert). It’s a built-in feature of WordPress galleries that images in them get embiggined when you click them. I think even regular picture posts get enlarged when you click them if they have enough pixels to begin with.
