Louis Mendes, in the background, is a well known street photographer who can often be found on the corner of 34th St and Ninth Avenue (near B&H) with his Speed Graphic and polaroid back. You can take his picture in return for his taking yours (for $20, as I learned to my cost).

We can still all be patrons of the arts!
Indeed we can. That’s why his Polaroid, in its signed paper frame, is proudly on display!
🙂
How cool is that.. I’d like to run into him and have him take my photo!
Well next time you’re visiting B&H, head on over to 34th and Ninth – you’ll likely run into him!

Will do 🙂
yeah he’s notorious for that $20.00 photograph. But it’s like eating at Katz, everybody should do it once. It’s a New York right of passage ennit?
Indeed. My picture, with my daughter beside me, is proudly displayed on our living room shelf. It’s quite sad that that’s how he makes a living in photography now.
