Have you been to Venice? I wondered what canals you thought were prettier.
I have not. I tried to go (for my honeymoon 25 years ago) but it turned out to be impractical for a variety of reasons and now, I fear, it is too late. From what I gather, it has become a hellscape of tourist hordes, destroying the environment and any pleasure one might take in its charms. Sorry, if that sounds pessimistic and dark but I’m inclining more and more to the notion that people should just stay home and leave the rest of the world alone. Hypocrisy in the extreme, given my travels, but they’re partly what informs such a view.
Realistic, not pessimistic at all. I do appreciate the honesty. For a variety of reasons, we cannot travel far so, in some small, I don’t feel FOMO. Thanks, Adam.
