I spent a lot of my youth and teenage years on East 86th Street as it was transforming from the sleepy German Yorkville into a commercial strip, shooting Tri-X.
This morning’s street photo was taken on the corner of 86th Street and Third Avenue in New York, outside the Baskin-Robbins ice cream store where I worked as a teenager so this would be circa 1973. This is back when Yorkville was still a relatively sleepy German community (with lots of Irish bars) and you can see the Berlin Bar in the background. There’s lots going on in this shot.
