In years past, there was a large photo expo at the Javits Center every October. This stopped with the pandemic and has not been re-instituted. One of the frequent features was camera, flash and software vendors setting up booths where hired models would pose for the overwhelmingly older male photographers to “test” the vendors’ wares. This was becoming a little difficult to justify, especially following #me_too and I seem to recall that in the last year or so of these events, models were less scantily clad, some were male, and fewer booths hosted them at all. This year, B&H hosted their own expo, Bild (German and Yiddish for picture), and I was surprised to find the models were back in force. This one was near the bathrooms where I waited while a friend was inside and I found her attire visually interesting. Alas, when I turned back for another shot, she’d been replaced by a less-well accoutred, sequin-y colleague.

And, finally… Nikon dispensed with the models and created this set, allowing the customers to be the models and get pictures of themselves flying into the living room.
Model
Photo+ Expo caters to its avid corps of late-middle-aged guys, still imagining they’re glamour photographers. Rare is the major booth without a model for the guys to photograph, demonstrating the superiority of someones, lights, lenses or cameras. In more recent years, and particularly since #timesup, the models are less and less scantily clad (that is to say, more clad). Grabbed this shot passing by with the test lens mentioned in the previous post.
Photographic Surprise
Finally the afternoon was over and I had to return the Fuji XT-2 and the wonderful 23mm f2 lens, but not before I ordered the lens. Can’t wait for it to arrive.

There were all kinds of models and entertainers hired by the exhibitors to provide shooting opportunities for the hordes at the PhotoPlus Expo (many scantily clad models a few of whom looked distinctly uncomfortable). Here’s one.
Considering Photography
Went to the PhotoPlus Expo at the Javits Center on Friday. Fujifilm were providing not only free camera sensor cleaning and checkup but also camera loans. I spent a few hours with the new XT-2 and the 23mm f2 lens. Here are a few quick snaps I took testing its auto-focus speed:
Unique Model
The PhotoPlus Expo always has models for photographers to shoot, with lessons on lighting (for sale) or using a portrait length lens (for sale). This year’s novelty was frontal nudity at the Unique Photo booth. I took this shot fast, walking past as the Makeup artist was changing instruments and colors.
