Leaves on a wet black bough?

After we passed Dora’s Green we walked some country roads and public footpaths. Here’s another candidate image for my Ezra Pound haiku project.

Dora’s Green

After we passed the stile seen at the bottom of the last picture posted, we passed into Dora’s Green, where the next several pictures were taken.

A few feet further along from the last post. The path is clearer now and we’ve descended a bit.

The view from a high point on the footpath we were following. You can just make out the path ahead of us in the lower portion of the picture and the frost on the trees up ahead.

We walked west of the University campus for a little over 5 miles one frosty morning. The next few days’ posts will document that walk.

Last leaves of Autumn
Against the clear, deep blue sky.
Brown melancholy.

Another thing I’m enjoying here is that the Autumn leaves are not all raked up – I can drag my feet through piles of brown leaves like I did as a kid. And they’re jewel-like when frosted.

Mu

Mu is the sign for empty, the answer to a famous koan. The line of empty branches has a certain calligraphic feel to it, I think.

The other day I posted a picture I called Traces. Here are some more examples. Photos at the second degree, they are traces of the traces left by shadows.

Yet another haiku sketch. This one has the sense of petals on a wet black bough, I think as well as a late Autumn feel of emptiness and a vaguely calligraphic character arising from the empty twigs and branches.

And we’re back… if briefly perhaps.

I’m not sure this really fits with the haiku theme. Certainly there’s a sense of the season, and emptiness, but not really anything interesting enough. What was I thinking?
