So progress continues on the projects and I hope to have some work to show here soon. In the meantime, there’s no harm in continuing to document my peregrinations around Farnham and the occasional foray further afield. But I think we’ll start up with just 1 post a day, rather than the 3 I’ve been managing for the last 10 years or so…
I was struck by the light shining through my recycling bin-liner.
On 31st January we held a private viewing of our UCA Photography MFA student work, The Gathering (you can see information about it now on the Exhibitions page). On the way out, in the evening, I stopped to photograph these glass sculptures with variable colored lighting in the entrance park. I couldn’t find any information about them.
John Davies’ sculpture is outside the room where our student show, The Gathering was housed. I was struck by the sculpture and how the colored window striping and lights contrasted with it.
Galleries and museums, because of their preference for white walls and a kind of deluxe starkness, often provide geometric black and white still life opportunities. I’ve often photographed corners, nooks, and chairs in such places.

The next morning, in bright sunlight, I noticed the reflection from the window on the kitchen backsplash (see last post).
I was struck by the shadows and light on the cabinet doors of the kitchen, so I got the tripod and took a few shots at different distances. This one is a 26-second exposure so I’m guessing the motion blur is coming from the actual shutter press (no mirror flapping on my Fuji).

…after a busy Christmas eve?
Another haiku candidate…? Signs of emptiness and seasonal change.
These might even qualify for the “petals on a wet black bough,” if we allow the bough is an artificial surface of dark green and the petals are actually leaves.
The Union Road leads past the Gostrey Meadow, where the flowers look spectral in their frosty coats.
The frost on the paved street looks black and white – only the berries let you know this is really a full color photograph.
