Alaskan Humor
Michael Chabon wrote a fantastic novel, The Yiddish Policemen’s Union, which imagines a Jewish protectorate in Sitka, Alaska (well worth reading, BTW). Upon debarking at Sitka and heading for a bus into town, we came upon this sign, displaying the type of Yiddish humor I’d expect from his characters.

As many of you will have sussed by now, I did my first (and dare I say, last) ocean cruise a few weeks ago and have been regaling (or boring) you with my vacation snaps. As a life-long urbanite, with my lens normally focused on the minutiae of gritty human artifice on NY’s Upper West Side this is quite a departure for me.
