On a last walk around Carlsbad, towards the northern end, around a gated community, we came upon this pot, under a tree, sitting by itself.

I think these may simply be fire hydrants – we saw them all over. If they are I’m not sure why they’re so complicated and appear in such a bewildering array of configurations.
