Mould on Rice

Something we found growing on some long ago leftovers…

Back home after our travels in July and this spore or floral frame was hanging by a single, unseen thread of spider silk from the side of the window. I watched it for days, blowing in the wind but not blowing away. Finally, one morning I opened the window wide, reached up and grabbed it by the thread. I then had the greatest difficulty detaching it and the still unseen spider thread from my finger and placing it on the window sill, in the stark sunlight, beside the shadow cast by a mint plant. Below is another shot I took of it by itself (with its shadow) using a 60mm macro lens.

I spent the final week of 2020 quarantined in my bedroom from the day after Christmas until a couple of days into the New Year – 10 days. While I never suffered any symptoms, I had accompanied my mother to take the test that was positive in her case, potentially exposing me and I followed NY State’s guidelines (and, yes, she’s nicely recovered now, thank you). Towards the end of those 10 days I pulled out my camera, attached a 60mm macro lens (90mm e) and started looking around the bedroom for something to shoot. Fair warning: bedroom macros coming up!

Blackberry

Another interesting shot (to me, at least) with the Fuji 60mm macro lens, shooting at f/2.4. I happened to notice this forlorn blackberry on the kitchen counter – it must have rolled out of the container unnoticed and I grabbed my camera and switched to the macro lens for this shot, just playing around, really. Talk about narrow depth of field and bokeh!
