Well, at least the lamp is straight in this one, but I look like a deer caught in the headlights and that shirt just has to go! The one below has a yellowish color cast to it and we’re the wrong size compared to the one above. Nothing yet ready to add to Modern Romance.
Another attempt at an extension of Modern Romance to New York. Not quite there.
Thought I would try my hand at some more images for Modern Romance, based here in New York, rather than Farnham. A Doctor’s office makes sense for an old couple, right? However, I don’t think it really works with the series, not to mention the color problems.
Sculptor Pat Walls putting the finishing touches to one of his several sandstone statues (here, the wheelwright) portraying the crafts and trades of Farnham in the Brightwells Yard development in Farnham as it holds out hope of completing. I had a nice chat with him about his practice and he described to me each of the artisans portrayed in the statues.
My project of the final semester of the MFA has been about the relationship of long-term older couples. The current portfolio comprises pictures of my partner and me only, but I am considering branching out to add more couples and make it a more representative and documentary project. When I saw this couple kissing on the platform I asked them if I could photograph them. Unfortunately, the train pulled in just then so I only had time to grab this single shot and could learn no more about them.
Leaving the Goodman Gallery and turning a corner I came upon this man taking a short break from painting the wooden scaffold behind him. It seemed such an excellent canvas for a portrait I had to ask him if I could take his picture. He joked that it would break my lens and, when I showed him the image, that now he would be famous.

Another image from September 2007. I don’t remember where exactly but looks like it might have been part of the ongoing series I was working on, The Burghers of Broadway.
Sticking with the September archive for now, this portrait was shot in May but not developed and posted until September of 2005.
While we were admiring the view, I saw these 2 young men taking a selfie. Using hand signals with my rusty French, they agreed to let me take their picture. I shared my photo business card with them and the one on the right asked me to take a picture of him solo.
A flower had blown off the back of her straw hat without her noticing. I picked it up and returned it, then noticing her Spring regalia to take a picture, which she happily agreed to.
From Holywell Bay we followed the Coastal Trail to Kelsey Head, Porth Joke and West Pentire and Polly Joke before completing our circuit. We saw marvelous wild flowering (a woman we met said the pink ones were sea poppies). If viewing in email, click the post title to click into the images and see them larger.
As part of a workshop in alternative cameras I took a few shots with an old Canon Powershot A570 which had it’s infrared filter removed and a piece of orange gel taped over the front of the lens. This yielded some interest color IR effects. Click any image to see them all enlarged.
As mentioned in the last post, these are some glass sculptures outside the Lightbox in Woking. I took photographs through them of my classmate, Reeve (who kindly agreed), and myself on the evening of our private viewing of The Gathering (see the Exhibition page for more info.)
Four of my classmates and I had just completed our final presentations for Exploratory Practice and adjourned to the Graphics Studio to unwind. The afternoon sun was streaming brightly through the western windows and Luna kindly allowed me to shoot a few quick snapshots of her in the golden light.
