Night in the City

Farnham’s Victoria Garden is across the street from us here. During Heritage Week we joined a tour and talk at the garden giving it’s history (it used to be a public bathing pool). Although I’ve taken pictures here many times before, I took a documentary sample (see below) again on the day.

Dome

The domed roof over the entrance rotunda of the National Museum + a couple of other architectural images. The “Keep Left” one might go with my “keep right” one from the Metropolitan in NY, or it might be a recommendation to the recently elected Labour party here in the UK who have tried so relentlessly not to frighten anyone with their leftism.

Oxymoron

There are a lot of these contradictions in terms. Would a true gentleman ever really frequent a gentlemen’s club? Almost by definition, not. Would a club for true gentlemen require CCTV?

The gap between the wealthiest and the poorest has grown to levels not seen in a century.

Utopia

I’m planning to enter a contest themed around the concept of “utopia,” Thomas More’s famous place-name from the Greek “no place” (but punning on “good place”). I have chosen to work on liminal spaces, those that are on the threshold between one place and another, spaces that are not places. Wooler

The trip described in the last couple of posts was taken about a month ago – we were going to be walking along St Cuthbert’s Way in Northumberland, from Wooler to Holy Island/Lindisfarne. From the Berwick-upon-Tweed train station we were taken by taxi to our first night’s resting place in Wooler. After checking in, we took a walk around town.
