Mother and Child

Continuing our series of street photographs taken with the consent of the subject, here’s one I took in the late 1970s. This little boy was so adorable, but once his mother gave permission and he knew I was taking pictures things changed. I had to wait quite a while till he’d forgotten about me before I could get the truly candid shots I wanted.

obBLOGato is NYPL on Facebook

I’ve rejuvenated my companion Facebook page. Instead of simply mirroring and cross-posting everything that appears here there will be additional postings and links to what’s going on. I’m trying to post things that will be of interest to anyone with a general interest in looking at  good photography, especially street photography in New York. Re-christened as New York People Live – NYPL (pronounced nipple?),  you can find it here: https://www.facebook.com/pages/New-York-People-Live-NYPL/112051462139672?fref=ts. I hope you’ll come take a look and “like” us.

My Carl Schurz

Just received copies of the brochure issued to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Carl Shurz Haus of the German American Institute in Freiburg, Germany. My photograph of his statue at Morningside Drive and 116th Street, “Carl Shurz, Defender of Liberty and Friend of Human Rights, Overlooks Harlem,” features in it and I’m quite pleased with how well the printed version came out. To get this angle I had to clamber up onto the wall over the drop into the park but it was worth it to get the Harlem prospect in the background.
