Quotation attributed to Haruki Murakami.

I returned to my series on people working On Broadway while I was in New York. For this shot I wanted to capture the apple display outside, but the light and reflections weren’t working for me. Eventually I went inside for a portrait which will appear in On Broadway in due course.

Just found these 2 images lingering on the chip in an older camera. The interaction of sunlight with this building at the end of our street in Brighton, housing the Department of Work and Pensions and a Job Centre (most of whose workers seemed to spend a lot of their time taking smoke breaks directly under our windows), often stuck me as offering photographic possibilities, though I never captured them.

Here, our intrepid photographer can be found in dialogue with his reflection in a blackened storefront window.

Throughout May we visited Brighton artists’ open studios at the weekends. At Sarah Shaw‘s studio I was taken by all the collections of old paint tubes, brushes, palettes and other supplies and took several pictures. Sarah held up a window frame used as a palette for one of them.
