Lotus Eaters

Eustace Street, Dublin, Ireland

from Leopold Bloom’s stream of consciousness in the Lotus Eaters chapter of Ulysses:

Lost it. Curse your noisy pugnose. Feels locked out of it. Paradise and the peri. Always happening like that. The very moment. Girl in Eustace street hallway. Monday was it settling her garter. Her friend covering the display of. Esprit de corps. Well, what are you gaping at?

Our New Skyline

Developers are putting up hideous new skyscrapers along the South end of the park, supported to a great extent, by anonymous foreigners who are laundering, or otherwise caching money in NY real estate. These shadow-throwing structures often remain unoccupied and are owned by the innermost company of a series of shell companies. May they fade away as they appear to here.

Photo Requests from Solitary

I recently started working with the organization, Photo Requests from Solitary. Their aim is “to support the growing movement to end or significantly reduce the use of long-term solitary confinement – a form of torture that has been condemned by the United Nations and other international human rights organizations – in California, Illinois, New York and the other states we are working. To encourage people to think about the needs and hopes of people in isolation, whose humanity is often dismissed. To use in conjunction with state campaigns to establish humane conditions of confinement through legislation and policy change.”

These photographs are my first edit to fulfill a request from one such inmate in long-term solitary confinement. If you’re interested in helping, you can find out more about them here.
