This is one of the ceilings in the main public library on 42nd Street and Fifth Avenue. Remarkably for one who’s lived in NY for over 60 years, and whose birth was announced in the library’s employee newsletter, I’d never been inside before doing some research a week or so ago in the Division of Art, Prints and Photographs.
We put off visiting the Royal Pavilion for a long time. Who wants to gawk at the opulence of oppressing royalty. Eventually, on a dull, grey day we submitted to boredom and went.
More than the art in the sole, hallway exhibition mentioned in yesterday’s post, was the architecture of the Chicago Cultural Center which was quite ornate. Click on any of the pictures below to see them all larger.
In the entrance hall to the museum hangs this sculptural lighting fixture. I’m drawn to photograph it every time I visit. This one’s looking up and forward. More to come.
Everything in Vegas is on a faux grand scale. These are the chandeliers over the escalator as we walked to dinner.
