An interesting challenge in photographic composition. Which image is stronger? In the top image we have the nice diagonal line of the birds, leading us in, as well as the converging lanes drawing our eye to the nearer and more prominent shopping cart. In the bottom image the bird in front draws the eye more, we still have the converging lanes and a diagonal line of birds, dividing the image almost in half, and I think there’s a stronger sense of the emptiness of the parking lot. Your thoughts?

The goats are back in Riverside Park this summer to perform their weeding and trimming tasks. Click any image to see them all enlarged.

In December of 2003 I took a business trip to Sydney, Australia for a couple of weeks. What a city! I think I could live there quite happily. Naturally, I brought along the 5 MP Dimage A-1 that I was still shooting jpegs with. Click any picture to see them all bigger.
We went for a tramp in Central Park’s Ramble last weekend (he got away – badum-tsss).
There’s a lot of hullabaloo about the barred owls that have appeared in Central Park lately. It’s apparently pretty rare for the city to host an owl and with two people are going crazy with the need to personally see and photograph them. I managed to snap a couple shots of each that are not terribly well done (using a long lens, nearby, out-of-focus foliage obscures the birds somewhat and they refuse to look in the portraitist’s direction.

Sadly, on our walk we came upon this dead deer lying on the side of the road. As a city boy, I’m not really sure what I could have done about it. Since it was pulled off the road, I assumed someone had moved it and called it in but to whom? And when? It was still there an hour late on the return from our walk.
