Looking Out to Sea

It’s hard not to take pictures of lovely sunsets, no matter how cliché we know they are. And after seeing Penelope Umbrico’s post photographic 5,377,183 Suns (from Sunsets) from Flickr (Partial) 4/28/09, it’s that much harder. But I also like to photograph people in the act of photographing the sunset, like the one below where the subject is trying to catch the sinking sun in his hand.

It’s famous!

And some Birds of Paradise with their late afternoon shadows from our day trip to Coronado.

We went up to Presidio Park and visited the Junipero Serra Museum (the Spanish Missionary who planted a cross here, declaring the lands in the name of Christ). Afterwards we walked around the Park and eventually descended the hill to Old Town.

With the airport right in the city, there are places where the planes come in very close overhead.

The cactus garden at Balboa Park is full of exotic looking cacti and other succulents that were new to me and looked exotic to my East Coast eyes.

I often find in museums a place to photograph myself in reflection. The Museum of Photographic Arts in Balboa Park (surprisingly lacking in photographs when we visited) provided the perfect opportunity for reflection.
