Caerleon

Caerleon, Wales

One day we took the train from Cardiff up to Newport where we caught a bus to Caerleon, home to several ancient Roman ruins and one of the primary claimants to be the site of Camelot. We first visited the Roman baths, which were fascinating, though I came away with few useful photographs, then made our way to a small museum, outside of which we visited the “Roman-inspired” garden where these pictures were taken.

Stare Miasto

Stare Miasto (Old Town), Warsaw, Poland

We visited the Warsaw Old Town, which appears to have been rebuilt after the war (1950s mostly, I think) chiefly for the tourist trade: very charming and old fashioned, with lots of restaurants and gift shops. I’ll be posting a bunch of touristy snaps over the next few days’ posts. Click on images below to see larger.

Walk to the Musée d’Orsay

Passerelle Léopold-Sédar-Senghor, Paris

Our first full day we walked through the Tuileries Garden and over the Seine to the Musée d’Orsay which I had purchased timed tickets for a month in advance. Click any of the pictures below to see them all larger.

Pillar, Shadow, Moto

Avenue du President Wilson, Paris

These pillars link the Palais de Tokyo to the Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris. I was struck by the strong light behind them, the wide shadows they were casting and how the shadows linked to the row of all black motorcycles but I couldn’t quite find the angle I wanted.

Getty Villa

The next day (Boxing Day), we visited the Getty Villa, modeled on ancient Roman country houses. A few snaps to give an idea of the carefully designed beauty of the place.
