Ancient (rebuilt) Architecture

We visited the Warsaw Old Town, which appears to have been rebuilt after the war (1950s mostly, I think) chiefly for the tourist trade: very charming and old fashioned, with lots of restaurants and gift shops. I’ll be posting a bunch of touristy snaps over the next few days’ posts. Click on images below to see larger.

Warsaw, Glowing

I had to make a trip to Warsaw towards the end of May for an urgent family matter. Warszawa Głowna is Warsaw Main, a museum of Polish trains and transport. I didn’t know that at the time and just thought it apt that the Warsaw sunset was certainly “glowing.”

The day after the gallery visits we went into London again to check out possible neighborhoods, starting in Richmond (see below).

Number 9

Ash Vale

We took the train a couple of stops to Ash Vale in the Borough of Guildford to walk a short trail in the Ash Ranges (military shooting ranges).

Night Out, London

We went to the West End Theatre at the beginning of the month (Hamnet). This was the view from the bridge on the walk back to Waterloo Station afterwards, with St Paul’s cathedral prominently lit.

Mayfair

After the Moriyama show at The Photographers’ Gallery, we went on to the Flowers Gallery where I was hoping to see Edward Burtynsky’s new work but I’d misread the web site and that show wouldn’t be opening for weeks. We went on from there, through Mayfair, to the Richard Saltoun Gallery for an excellent event dedicated to the launch of 2 new Hannah Arendt books. A perfect end to the day!
